Field Project Engineer

We have an experienced team of skilled Systems Engineers with expertise in Automation Systems, Motion Control, and Coordinated Drive System design and programming. These systems use state of the art industrial PLCs, HMIs and Vision systems with integrated safety.

We are considering experienced candidates with an engineering degree and demonstrated competence in Evaluation, Analysis and Implementation of Equipment Safety in an industrial environment. The ideal candidate will possess an excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals, project management capabilities, leadership skills, willingness to work in a team environment and a passion to apply this knowledge to the deployment of automated industrial machines with a specific focus on Project Management, Customer Relations and Implementation of Equipment, Automation and Safety Systems. Experience with and certifications (such as: OSHA 30, TUV) related to relevant safety standards (such as: ISO 13849, NFPA 79, NFPA 70e, RIA 15.06) are desirable.


Responsibilities include:

  • Interface with Sales, Internal Project Team and Customer to manage field implementation of engineered solutions including: Sectional Drive Systems, Automation Systems, Equipment Systems and Safety Systems.

  • Participate in project fact finding / measure up trips to refine/reinforce scope following order placement.

  • Assist in performing and documenting Risk Assessments and developing Safety Implementation Plan when necessary.

  • Create / modify customer layouts (using AutoCad and/or Visio) for new equipment or upgrades to illustrate clearly for project team and customer what has been agreed upon during kickoff or measure up events.

  • Participate in detailed design efforts with AMS project team to implement the agreed upon project scope including physical guarding, hydraulic and pneumatic safety design, electrical safety design, threading and other mechanical subsystems, etc.

  • Assist AMS internal Project Management Team with keeping design on scope, on schedule and on budget to meet the requirements of the project as sold.

  • Assist Sales with managing customer expectations to avoid scope creep and unrealistic implementation timelines due to production pressures.

  • Develop relationships with local contractor resources at each customer site to ensure rapid and efficient installation efforts.

  • Develop and secure proposals from mechanical and electrical installation contractors for field installation services for AMS systems.

  • Collaborate with customer facility personnel to ensure work permits, training requirements and material staging plans satisfy customer policies and procedures.

  • Direct installation efforts and provide supervision of contractor team(s) daily and/or per shift to ensure adherence to installation schedule and ensure exemplary communications with customer.

  • Participate in multiple projects with aggressive schedules at multiple customer locations and ensure that they move toward success simultaneously.

AMS is a Certified Solution Partner for Siemens using Simatic PLCs and HMIs in addition to Simotion Motion Controllers and Sinumerik CNCs. AMS is also an Automation System Integrator of Rockwell products with expertise with Logix PLCs, CIP Motion and Kinetix / PowerFlex 755 Drives with Integrated Safety.


This position is a salaried position with bonus potential and will require frequent (up to 50%) travel.
